A muffin is an individually-sized quick bread. They can be sweet or savoury and are popular accompaniments for coffee and eaten for breakfast or as a snack.

An English muffin is different to a traditional muffin, they are leavened and much flatter. They are usually toasted, covered in butter and served for breakfast. Despite the name, they originate from New York City.
